A little history on Knights' of Meaford, the Knight family moved to the area in 1846, settling in the Woodford area, Sydenham township.  When settling in the area, they started into the building trade, by opening a sawmill, that was located in Meaford on the Big Head River.

In 1912, the Knight family started making hardwood flooring, which is still in business today as Knights' of Meaford Flooring.  In 1936 the family store started into the sale of hardware, and over the years, they used various buying groups to get the best assortment and pricing for hardware and building need products for their customers.  In  2007 they became a Home Hardware Franchise store.  They were originally on Edwin St, before building the store on Hwy 26, where they call home today where they moved to in 2010.

2012 has been a banner year for Tyler Knight the General Manager of the Building Centre, he not only won the Hardware Merchandising Outstanding Young Retailer award, which is the Canadian award, he also won the North American Retail Hardware Association Young Retailer award.  This is quite an accomplishment, as this is the first time that one person has won both awards in one year.

Scott Knight and Tyler Knight, they are the sixth generation retail entrepreneur's of the Knight family.  Tyler and Scott divide duties, Scott takes care of the contractor business, while Tyler oversees the retail and marketing side of the business.  Their retail location on Hwy 26 opened June 21 2010, it has 14,000 sq ft of retail space, for lots of different products to be displayed, they also have 13,000 sq ft warehouse with a three-storey AutoStak system on their 5.2 acre lot.
