Overlooking the crystal blue water of Georgian Bay, in the shadow of the Niagara Escarpment sits Grey County's first winery, Coffin Ridge. A boutique winery by design, Coffin Ridge produces high quality, small batch wine made primarily from grapes grown from hand planted, hand picked Grey County grapes. Coffin Ridge's three signature wines: Into The Light White, Back From The Dead Red and Resurrection Rose express the Grey County terroir exquisitely.

Start your day at Coffin Ridge with a wine tasting led by our knowledgeable staff. From there you can retreat to the deck for a glass of wine and our vintner's plate made up of local artisanal breads and cheeses which have been specifically paired with the glass of wine you are drinking. Relax, listen to music and enjoy the Coffin Ridge experience.

Coffin Ridge would not exist but for the following people:

Neil Lamont, Owner

Coffin Ridge Vineyard and Winery started as many things do...with a dream. For Neil Lamont, owner of Coffin Ridge, it was the challenge of growing grapes in the terroir of Grey County that first intrigued him and then became his dream for the future. His science background prepared him for the research necessary to sort out which grape varieties would go best with the soil and climate of Grey County. His surgical training was enormously helpful in that grape growing, like surgery, requires a great deal of compassion, care and patience all of which he uses on a daily basis both in his surgical and farm practice.

After ten years of research and hard work Coffin Ridge Winery, which began as a distant dream, will finally open its doors in June 2008. All of Neil's passion, patience and research have paid off as anyone who sits in the vineyards will attest to.

Terry Rayner, Winemaker

Our winemaker, Terry Rayner, came to us through Larry Patterson, AKA Little Fat Wino, who saw great talent in Terry. Terry has been a winemaker since 1979 and has won Ontario Amateur winemaker of the year in six different years. He ranks in the top five amateur winemakers nationally and is the highest ranked amateur in Ontario for wine. In 1998 he became a Master Judge.

Terry has been with Coffin Ridge since 2006 and has produced some of the most complex and intriguing wines from our grapes. He has been instrumental in ensuring that Coffin Ridge produces only high quality, boutique style wine. His commitment to quality is evidenced in all three of our signature wines. Staff at Coffin Ridge look forward to experiencing what he has in store for the 2008 harvest.

Michael Todd, Vineyard Manager

The first nine acres of Coffin Ridge's soon to be 25 acre vineyards were planted by hand beginning in 2000. For the first few years Neil and Gwen along with many helpers tended to the vines as best they could given that they both worked full time. In 2006 their son Michael took pity on them and returned to the farm to take over management of the vineyards full time. As vineyard manager Michael has done an amazing job of tending to the vines.

From sun up until sun down Michael, along with head field hand Carl Hunt and grow tube queen Marjory Fraser, tends to the earth, the vines and the grapes. They have, together, urged the plants to be the very best they can be by using gentle and innovative growing techniques.
